Grammar literacy has a heavy  influence on understanding of reading  and writing. A lot of

students aren’t

taught grammar properly in school, or as

in early childhood which leads them not

to use it in the case that they may have

to(Benjamin’s, 2021). There are also

other reasons it is so crucial, like to be

able to differentiate words that are either

spelled the same or sound the same. The

reason it may matter so much is mostly

because if you don’t get what someone

says to you or what text you may read

from whatever source can be quite a big

problem.

        Writing without proper grammar

makes your message unclear, even if you

know exactly what you want to say.

Readers rely heavily on grammatical

markers, such as verb tenses and for

sentence structure, to understand the

meaning. When these grammatical

signals are missing or incorrect, the

writing becomes harder to follow and

interpret. Good grammar ensures that

your ideas flow clearly from one

sentence to the next, allowing readers to

understand your point without confusion.

As Gordon-Pershey (2022) explains,

readers need these grammatical cues to

fully grasp what a writer intends to

communicate.

         Understanding grammar also

strengthens a person’s ability to analyze

and interpret text. When you know how

grammar works, you can identify how

sentences are structured and why certain

choices are made in writing. This makes

the meaning of the text clearer and more

organized. By learning where and how to

apply grammar, your own writing

becomes more logical and easier for

others to understand. As Benjamins

(2020) notes, the resemblance between

languages in text appears in the ways

grammar represents both past and

present meaning, which further supports

deeper analysis.

         Some people argue that learning

literacy grammar wise is useless and that

nobody will  actually use it. They believe

grammar and literacy skills are highly

unnecessary in everyday life.

However, this idea overlooks how

essential literacy really is. Grammar

literacy is crucial  because it helps

people understand what they read and

write, making communication stronger

and more accurate. Our world is facing

multiple global challenges—from

pandemics to environmental crises to

racism and inequality—so schools must

educate the whole child to prepare them

for the world they live in (Marcelo &

Suárez-Orozco, 2021). Literacy is not

useless; it is necessary for navigating and

understanding a complex society.

         Grammar literacy remains

extremely important in the modern

world, especially as language  and

communication continues to evolve.

Understanding grammar, practicing

writing skills, and recognizing the

differences between past and present

tense all contribute to stronger

comprehension. Research even shows

that older texts can influence modern

grammatical understanding. Educators

should recognize how impactful

grammar is today, and how essential it

is for understanding text with or without

context and with the precise use of

words.
