About Me

Taking this English class was very interesting to say the least. I had problems with staying on top of my assignments and keeping up with the readings in the beginning of the course. I thought that I should be putting more effort especially since the first major assignment was coming which was the Learning Analysis Essay and since there were only three major assignments throughout the course, also including the semi-weekly reflections which were later on that I didn’t even know about until recently. And my confusions and troubles were shown in that first assignment and the rest of the course’s assignment but, I’d like to go over some ups and downs of the course and how I got through it.

The first assignment of the class was the Learning Analysis Essay and the assignment was difficult to tackle mostly because I spent a lot of time on the assignment and half of the time wasn’t even spent writing. I was just procrastinating between actually writing the essay because I didn’t want to start it and I didn’t know how to. But, eventually I got it done and I think my grade reflected the amount of effort I put into the assignment. I think this assignment taught me not to rush assignments because my outline was good but my actual essay was not. I believe overall this assignment told me to not rush assignments.

The next assignment was the Researched Informed Essay but I’d like to reflect on the previous assignment before it which was the annotated bibliography. Before writing this assignment there was a session hosted in the library about researching which to this day I’m happy for that session because the instructor taught the class where to go in order to find sources in the CCNY library. It was also easy to dig into the world of literacies since all the information was broad on that database. The bibliography was just showing our current research findings by providing an APA citation of a source, a summary of the source, how it aligns with our research, and how exactly we’ll use the source in our essay.

The next major assignment for this class was the research informed essay, which showcased our research findings when it came to a certain form of literacy. My choice was grammar literacy and how it shapes understanding how to read and write in the real world. This essay was a bit of a pickle process to write mostly because of other stuff that I had to finish doing. I think this was probably my worst piece of writing in this class just because of how unorganized it is. This was the last actual writing assignment and though this showcased my writing to a certain extent but I feel as if it is incomplete because I would have rather spent more time on it more specifically the final draft because the paragraphs put together were a little not well written .

The last major assignment for this semester was the multi-modal translation presentation. This assignment had 2 parts, the presentation and the rationale. I get really nervous when I present. So I didn’t think I would do a good presentation also because I have to speak out loud about my topic that I barely knew about because I procrasinated, But it allowed me to sharpen how exactly to make a stance towards a certain topic which was why I chose grammar literacy and why it was important. The actual presentation was easy to come up with but the execution was hard due to the fact my idea wasn’t well thought out so I had to spend a considerable amount of time actually planning when I should have been making my presentation. But it taught me how to get an audience properly engaged as well as examine how to properly empower my way of speaking to get the attention of my audience. For the presentation I decided to showcase an interactive slideshow with a couple questions to engage the audience.

This class is the kind of class that actually challenged me in the sense when it came to the standard of my work and the effort I put into it. My skills developed throughout the course since all assignments were in depth targeting a specific skill that I may or may not had had prior to taking the class. After every major assignment and the grade I recieved. I am proud to say I can see how my choices led to a better piece of work than the last. I’m grateful for the peer reviews that were done in class because it exposed me to flaws in my work that I didn’t know I had to fix. And nearly every class was useful to me even if I didn’t realize it at that very moment, although it was difficult at times it was still interesting.
